Our Programs

We aren't your typical academic or professional organization. Through an array of both public and private programming, we seek to better our community, build networks, facilitate new ways of thinking and provide opportunities for our members. Have an idea for an event? Get in touch.

workshops

Our research workshops are a way for both young and established scholars to present their works-in-progress, while our professional development and continuing education workshops provide support for educators and practitioners.

conferences & Colloquia

Fashion is often framed as a broken system. Through our annual conferences and research colloquia, our goal is to elevate new ways to address old problems, while also working to define the American field of fashion studies.

networking

Our networking events run the gamut — from book launches, to happy hours, to our Fashion & Spinach dinners, we aim to bridge the institutional divide and bolster the fashion studies community in New York City and beyond.

philanthropy

As the sociologist Joanne Entwistle famously observed, "Human bodies are dressed bodies." With this sentiment in mind, FSA seeks partnerships with charitable organizations that have design and/or clothing-based initiatives.
